The weekend 26-27 march there was a partially joint seminar for Ringmasters and Breeding judges at Kríunes in Iceland. There are currently 31 licensed ringmasters and 27 licensed breeding judges. Of those, there were 22 ringmasters and 22 breeding judges who attended the seminar. The focus for the ringmasters was the position of the horse while being measured, they listened to lectures about harmony between measurements of the same horses between shows as well as how the measurments are used for conformation assessments and how they are correlated with performance under rider. There was quite much focus on measurment of hooflength and standardization of how to evaluate what is a normal shoing. On the Friday afternoon there was a joint lecture for Ringmasters and Breeding judges about working under pressure and how to handle outside pressure and not to let it influence decision making.
The breeding jugdes have, like previous years, had monthly training sessions online judging ridden abilities. This fysical seminar was therefore used quite much to discuss assessment of conformational traits and several topics were on the table with the aim to increase standardization even further. A visit to a stable where some horses conformation was judged and discussed was also on the agenda. The group of Breeding judges is rather small which makes harmonization easier and more effective. However, for approximately two weeks a year the group is barely big enough to manage the demand so in the coming year it will be necessary to arrange a seminar and a test for candidates aspiring to become a breeding judge.
