FEIF online meeting about developments in Horse Welfare and SLO in our member countries

November 20 2024 | Breeding, Education, General, Leisure Riding, Sport, Youth Work

Mid of November 2024, representatives from 11 FEIF member countries met online to discuss issues related to Horse Welfare and SLO as concerns the issues in their respective countries. It was a stimulating and informative meeting with lively contributions from all the participants.

For the first time, the FEIF Horse Welfare working group participated in the meeting and informed about what is currently what they are working on in the FEIF committees. The group consists of one member from each FEIF committee, and their job is to make sure at every meeting that welfare concerns stay on top of every agenda.

Members of the FEIF Horse Welfare working group are:

  • Breeding: Eyvindur Hrannar Gunnarsson
  • Education: Anne Sofie Nielsen
  • Leisure: Katja Schütz
  • Sport: Lisa Kroon
  • Youth: Sirpa Brumpton
  • Administration: Barla-Catrina Isenbügel

It is possible for FEIF to make a difference to horse welfare, by revising the FEIF Rules and Regulations in the light of current research and by raising awareness of topical issues via the Leisure, Education and YouthWork committees. When it comes to Social License to operate, the work is better done by the countries, and the focus on particular issues varies in different parts of the world. However,  the exchange of resources and  information and addressing common questions has proved to be a valuable tool for all who participated. The FEIF Welfare/SLO working group will meet every two months, and the next meeting will happen early in the new year.
