Relay riders in Oirschot

The relay riders have arrived in Oirschot after a long ride from Herning in Denmark, where the World Championships were held in 2015. Riders started their ride of 840km there and rode through Germany to the Netherlands. Sunday morning the riders were welcomed from enthusiastic bystanders at the town’s market place with applause and FEIF president Gunnar Sturluson spoke about the tradition of the relay ride which is ridden by recreational riders, and shows the diversity of the Icelandic horse.
During the opening of the World Championships 2017 the FEIF-baton will be handed over to Germany, where the World Championships 2019 will be hosted.
