WC2009 Relay Ride

The Big Handover will take place on the Dutch-German border at Wegberg, Germany on 17th June 2009. This year’s relay ride to the World Championships starts soon. In accordance with FEIF tradition, this year’s relay ride will be from Oirschot in the Netherlands to Brunnadern in Switzerland.

This year’s route will go through Germany for 42 days. The first two weeks of the ride will pass through the area of IPZV Rheinland with a stop at Blankenheim, the home of IPZV President, Karly Zingsheim. On the 29th June, the ride will cross the river Mosel, near Monzelfeld and continue its journey in the area of IPZV Rheinland-Pfalz-Saar. Two weeks later the ride crosses into the IPZV Baden-Würtenberg area at the Rhenstetten ferry. The German stage of the ride will end at Öhringen on 28th July 2009.

After leaving Germany, Swiss Icelandic Horse riders will bring the relay ride, accompanied by the remaining German riders, to Brunnaderm in Switzerland, the location for this years World Championships.

During the championships, the relay riders will parade into the stadium to be greeted by WC officials and an enthusiastic crowd. Bringing people together in their passion for the Icelandic horse.
