FIPO: Shoes up to 23.0 mm

September 20 2005 | Sport

The current rule to allow shoes with a width up to 22.0 mm (in FIPO 2.3.3) is based upon 20.0 mm shoes with a margin of 10% for becoming wider because of normal use. It seems that this 10% margin is not sufficient for all riders, despite the fact that correct shoes can be obtained from several manufacturers. To put an end to discussions that pop up every now and then the Delegates’ Assembly – upon proposal of the Annual Sport Meeting – decided to allow shoes with a width up to 23.0 mm (including wear and tear). This is of course no argument to use wider (and heavier) shoes with an initial width of more then 20.0 mm.
This rule is valid as of January 1, 2006.
